1. Today we light the fourth Advent candle of Joy to proclaim the coming of the light of God into the world. With the coming of this light there is Joy. Joy that is our not only at Christmas but always.
2. All church New Year’s eve thanksgiving celebration will be held on Dec. 31st 2008 Wednesday at Shupang & Lienpo Chou’s home. 622 Chenier Way Orleans. 6 pm potluck dinner followed by games, testimonies, reflection and fellowship. Please mark your calendar and come to give thanks for God’s blessings in the past year.
3. Rev. Wilson Chan will be on vacation Dec. 25, 2008—Jan. 8, 2009. Rev. Bill Carruthers will preach on the last Sunday of Dec., Rev. Gerry Fuller will preach on the first Sunday of January with Rev. Mel Newman conducting the holy Communion. We thank them for their loving service.
4. This Saturday Dec. 27 evening 7:30 pm Bible study fellowship will be held at the home of Brother Frank Pan and Sister Linda’s. We will read the Bible and share reflections on life and work. All are welcome
5. We welcome into our spiritual family Sister Sun Yun Hong who joins our church today through the holy rite of adult baptism..

4. This Saturday Dec. 20 evening 6:00 pm Chinese Scholars’ Evangelist Testimony on DVD will be held in the dinning hall featuring second lecture of a new series by Rev. Hong Zi Jian. All are welcome.

1. Today we light the Second Advent candle of Peace to proclaim the coming of the light of God into the world. With the coming of this light there is peace, for Christ is called the “Prince of Peace.” Christ’s name is also Emmanuel, “God with us.” The presence of Christ with us gives us peace day by day.
2. On Sunday morning 9:30 am Rev. Chan is starting a new Adult Sunday School course called “In the Beginning…” a study on Chapters 1-3 of Genesis. This is a search for truth about the beginning of life and the creation of God. Please bring a new friend and join the class.
3. This Friday Dec. 12 evening 8:00 pm Rev. Chan will lead a prayer meeting using the book “Face to Face with God in Our Church”. We are intentional to start a prayer ministry in this church. We are praying for our parishioners and for our church work. All are welcome.
4. This Saturday Dec. 13 evening 7:30 pm Bible study fellowship will be held at the home of Brother Liang Yi and Sister Li Li’s. We will read the Bible and share reflections on life and work. All are welcome.

2. On Sunday morning 9:30 am Rev. Chan is starting a new Adult Sunday School course called “In the Beginning…” a study on Chapters 1-3 of Genesis. This is a search for truth about the beginning of life and the creation of God. Please bring a new friend and join the class.

Spiritual Thought for the Week
Today is our church’s 47th anniversary Sunday. We thank God for the strength and steadfastness that has ever been growing here since we joined the United Church of Canada 47 years ago. If you ask me where will this church be 47 years from now? I can assure you there will still be a strong and growing Chinese United Church in Ottawa for an indefinite number of years. Why? It is because we believe in Jesus Christ who is the same yesterday and today and forever. (Hebrews 3:8)
Who can stand for ever without change? What can exist without end? No one! Nothing! All people, things and events are changing. There is not one person or thing or event we can grasp hold of and never let go. If we put our hopes on things and people that change we will end up in vanity and despair.
Jesus Christ is the only One who is the same yesterday and today and forever. He never changes himself. His relationship with us never changes. His steadfast love, faithfulness and loyalty never changes. His strength, might and power never changes. He is our Lord. The one we can trust and have hope and have relationship with. Apart from Him, all others are fake, temporal and meaningless. If we look at eternity, who can promise us things that are everlasting? No one but Him.
From olden times to contemporary ones, tens of thousands of believers have proved that the Lord is reliable and trustworthy and never changes. Other things and people are not reliable. They are not worthy to be trusted. They do not deserve our time and energy to pursue after. Once we have found the one who is true and can be trusted for eternity all the rest are not important any more. Let the world change, the sky shake, the mountain collapse, the sea overflow, when the Lord is with me I am not afraid. There is peace in me, for He will not be moved. I have sheltered. I am protected under His everlasting arms. As for the world and my foes in the flesh I fear them nothing, because the Lord will take control. He will be in charge. He will take care of me to the end.
Our church’s only one foundation is Jesus Christ our Lord.
O where are kings and empires now of old that went and came?
But, Lord, your church is praying yet, A thousand years the same.

We have been informed by the Presbytery that Rev. Chan will be returning to work on October 19 for 4 hours per week for 3 weeks. After that, Rev. Chan will work full-time if he receives medical clearance to do so. Rev. Chan will be preaching next Sunday.
区会仝乙陈牧師从十月十九日起一連三个星週在教会工作半天.如果医生批准从十一月九日起恢复全时间工作.陳牧師下主日会讲道.
4. The Ottawa Christian Chorale will present F. Mendelssohn’s oratorio “Elijah” in
our church this Friday, Oct. 17 at 8:00pm. The prophet Elijah was called by God to
lead people back to Him and to a time of spiritual renewal. Pease bring some
dessert for refreshment, and invite your friends to attend. Free admission.

3. Brother Sam Chu suffered “cerebral venous sinus thrombosis”, blood clot forming in the cerebral sinus and extending into the vein. He was resting at home and taking blood thinning medication last week. This past Friday, he want to the Civic Hospital Emergency due to high fever. Now he is resting at home waiting for the test result. Please pray for his recovery and may God grant peace and comfort to him and his family.
朱邑和弟兄两週前血管出血塞住脑部静脈被進医院检查,上周出院在家休养及服用抗凝血剂药物. 上周五因发高燒送进急症室检查. 现己回家等待检查结果.求神赐平安及安慰和快速恢复健康.
3. Sister Wei Chee Jong have a successful ovariectomy operation this past Thursday, Sept. 4. Pray that she will have a speedy recovery.

We plan to start Sunday School for your children in September. There will be a class suitable for your child. We will start singspiration from 9:30 to 9:45 am, and then classes from 9:45 to 10:30 am. We’ll be using David C. Cook’s material. He is a well known Christian educator. We combine learning Bible stories, arts and crafts all in one. It’s a good chance to improve the English language ability and enhance the morality of the children. “Train your child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6. A new Mandarin adult Sunday school class lead by Sister Nan Wang has begun this morning, September 7 at 9:30 am. The teaching is about practical Christian living, based on Dr. Charles Stanley’s “Life Principle Bible”. Please come and study God’s word together.

欢迎参加华人联合教会7月26日(星期六)的菲立湖(Lac Philippe)郊游
菲立湖(Lac Philippe)是Gatineau国家公园中最适合集体郊游的地方。位于米歇湖(Meech Lake)的上游，湖水清澈,绿树环绕,绿草如荫。湖中可以游泳, 在沙滩上可以玩排球。多年来，华人联合教会每年七月都组织大家到菲立湖旅行。今年也热诚邀请大家一同与我们分享神所创造的这一片美丽的大自然。
1．交通7月26日(星期六)早晨9:00，在联合教会(600 Bank St.)的停车场集合，9:20准时出发。我们欢迎并提醒没有车的朋友们及早报名参加，以便安排车位。在出发前, 我们将提供行车路线和集合处地图。每辆车都发有一定的标志，以便在公路上识别，避免迷路。从教会出发，约45分钟可到达。每辆车在入口处将收门票9元。
2．具体活动达目的地后，将车停在Parent Beach停车场。大家将当日所需的物资食物运至集合地点。11:00集合，联合教会将致欢迎词，并与大家分享对信仰和人生的看法。接下来举行教会的洗礼仪式。我们很高兴今次有6位弟兄或姊妹参加洗礼，让我们一起来见证这一特殊的时刻。之后，大家一同分享个人带来的午餐(Potluck)。饭后是自由活动时间。在这一片美不胜收的大自然中，我们可以游泳、划船、玩沙滩排球，也可以漫步林荫小径，或在树荫下放松休息，尽情享受休闲的快乐。在4:00pm, 教会开始烧烤晚餐――汉堡、热狗和色拉。晚餐过后，我们将场地清理干净，就可以踏上归程了。

6月15日會友與教會關懷
CONGREGATION & CHURCH CONCERNS for June 15, 2008:
(English)
1. This Friday June 20 bilingual English and Spanish prayer meeting will start at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary led by Rev. Wilson Chan who will share the vision of Evangelism Explosion. 8:00 pm Brother Miguel Stack will lead time for prayer. All are welcome.
2. This Friday June 20 Chinese prayer meeting will start at 8:00 pm in the dinning hall. We will first watch Chinese scholar evangelist Rev. Fan Xue De’s testimony in DVD entitled The Road Back Home. Then we will pray for the work of the church and the life of our parishioners afterwards. Please come and pray for the people and for the work of our church.
3. The biweekly Chinese scholars’ testimony series continues to meet this Saturday June 21 with a testimony on DVD by Rev. Liu Tong Su in the dinning hall. Dinner at 6:00 pm; presentation at 7:15 pm; and group discussions at 8:30 pm. New seekers and old timers to the Christian faith are equally welcome.
4. Baptism class of 6 sessions June 1st to July 6 starts every Sunday at 9:30 am in the board room led by Brother Shupang Chou and Rev. Wilson Chan. People who plan to be baptised this summer please contact Rev. Chan and attend the course.
5. Acorn Early Learning Centre scheduled to open this fall in our church is now accepting children for their waiting list. For more information, please contact Joanne Saunders, (613) 794-2406. As members of this congregation, you will have priority on their wait list.
6. This Wednesday night June18 at 7：30 PM English prayer of intercession will be held in the board room. Rev. Wilson Chan will share the vision of reviving the church through Evangelism Explosion. Then we will pray for one another for spiritual revival. Please come and pray with us.
7. English Bible study fellowship will be held June 22 Sunday in the home of Teresa and James Hung. Potluck dinner at 6:15 pm and Bible study at 7:15. We will use the book 30 Days Introduction to Reading the Bible as guide. Please contact Sister Teresa Fang or Rev. Chan if you are interested.
8. Sister Huiing Yin has just returned to Beijing with her two daughters Isabella and Evangelin. Her husband Brother Wang Kai and oldest daughter Elizabeth will stay in town until they return in the fall. We pray God to bless the family separated in two countries during this time.
9．The parents of Sister Tang Yan Bo have arrived safely in Canada last week. We thank God for the reunion of the two generations in Brother Li Bo’s family.

1. Every Friday evening we have two prayer meetings: English at 7:30 in the sanctuary led by Brother Miguel Stack; Chinese at 8:00 pm in the dinning hall led by Pastor Chan, Rev. Gerry Fuller and others while we share devotional messages from Chinese scholars in the DVD. Please come and pray for the people and for the work of our church.
2. Biweekly Bible study fellowship on the Gospel of John led by Brother Patrick Wong will continue this Saturday June 14 at Brother Liang Yi and Sister Li Li’s home. 35 Borealis Crescent Ottawa. Bible study at 7:30 pm followed by testimony and discussion on faith and life, concluded by intercessory prayer. All are welcome.
3. Baptism class of 6 sessions June 1st to July 6 starts every Sunday at 9:30 am in the board room led by Brother Shupang Chou and Rev. Wilson Chan. People who plan to be baptised this Summer please contact Rev. Chan and attend the course.
4. "The Ontario Health Department staff and Fire Marshal will come to inspect our church soon as a result of the daycare application. The church property committee wishes to clean up and discard all unwanted stuff in the basement storage rooms and hallways – things such as old clothes, car tires and things blocking the doorways etc. Members who have stored such items in the church basement please have them removed as soon as possible. If there are concerns please contact Sam Chu or Wei Wang."

2. Biweekly Bible study fellowship on the Gospel of John led by Brother Patrick Wong will continue this Saturday May 31st at Brother Patrick and Sister Rita’s home. 35 MacNabb Pl., Ottawa. Bible study at 7:30 pm followed by a topical discussion on faith and life, concluded by intercessory prayer. All are welcome.
3. In response to the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck southwest China on May 12, let all Chinese Christians join in to watch and pray for our fellow Chinese people. We pray for peace and mercy from God to heal our native land in China. Today we are collecting a special offering for relief in the China earthquake.
4. "The Ontario Health Department staff and Fire Marshal will come to inspect our church soon as a result of the daycare application. 6. Sister Xu Ming Li has returned to Tian Jin on Tuesday for three weeks. She will come back bringing along her five year old daughter this early June. We thank God for the family of Brother Hu Tie Qiang when the whole family of three will soon be living together happily ever after.
7. Sister Li Jing Wen had a brain operation. It went very well. The Lord watched over her. She has left the hospital and is resting at home. We thank God for protecting over her. We thank brothers and sisters who prayed for her.

3. Global Day of Prayer is scheduled for tonight Pentecost Sunday May 11, 2008 6 pm at Dominion Chalmers United Church. This is a call to repentance and unified prayer 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in all nations. Let’s start the prayer watch today. We pray God to change the destiny of our nation, raise up praying warriors to revive the church and the city.

6. Brother En Nai Huang’s father passed away to be with the Lord in Bei Jing last week. En Nai and his son Jeffery were there and will stay for another week until funeral service finishes. His wife Wu Di and daughter Boyu are still in Ottawa. We pray for God’s comfort for the family during their grieving period.
7. To improve our church ministry we are conducting a survey. Please fill out the survey form in the bulletin insert. You need to sign your name at the bottom to prove your identity. But it will be detached later to protect your confidentiality. Please return it to the suggestion box in the back of the sanctuary. Deadline is May 11.
8．Sister Connie Wang is travelling in China until end of June. She will visit Bei Jing, Tian Jin, Kuen Ming and Shang Hai together with her brother Yi Hang who joins her from Taiwan. We pray for their safe and pleasant trip.

4. "The Ontario Health Department staff and Fire Marshal will come to inspect our church soon as a result of the daycare application. The church property committee wishes to clean up and discard all unwanted stuff in the basement storage rooms and hallways – things such as old clothes, car tires and things blocking the doorways etc. Members who have stored such items in the church basement please have them removed as soon as possible. If there are concerns please contact Sam Chu or Wei Wang."

6. Brother En Nai Huang’s father passed away to be with the Lord in Bei Jing last week. En Nai and his son Jeffery were there and will stay for another week until funeral service finishes. His wife Wu Di and daughter Boyu are still in Ottawa. We pray for God’s comfort for the family during their grieving period.

2. The biweekly Chinese scholars’ testimony series continues to meet this Saturday May 10th with a report on China Mission by Rev. Dr. Bill Caruthers in the dinning hall. Dinner at 6:00 pm; presentation from Rev. Caruthers and others at 7:00 pm; questions and answers at 8:30 pm. New seekers and old timers to the Christian faith are equally welcome.
3. Global Day of Prayer is scheduled for the evening of Pentecost Sunday May 11, 2008 at Dominion Chalmers United Church. This is a call to repentance and unified prayer 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in all nations. Let’s start the prayer watch today. We pray God to change the destiny of our nation, raise up praying warriors to revive the church and the city.
4. Bimonthly Chinese Devotional “Proclaim” has arrived and put in the foyer table for pick up. Please claim your copy and do your daily devotion accordingly.

Every Friday evening we have two prayer meetings: English at 7:30 in the sanctuary led by Brother Miguel Stack; Chinese at 8:00 pm in the dinning hall led by Pastor Chan and others while we share devotional messages from Chinese scholars in the DVD. Please come and pray for the people and for the work of our church.
2. The biweekly Chinese scholars’ testimony series continues to meet this Saturday April 26 in the dinning hall. Dinner at 6:00 pm; lecture from Rev. Liu Tong Su in DVD at 7:00 pm; group discussion at 8:30 pm. New seekers and old timers to the Christian faith are equally welcome.
3. Global Day of Prayer is scheduled for the evening of Pentecost Sunday May 11, 2008 at Dominion Chalmers United Church. This is a call to repentance and unified prayer 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in all nations. Let’s start the prayer watch today. We pray God to change the destiny of our nation, raise up praying warriors to revive the church and the city.
4. Thank God for Brother Louis Chow whose driver license has been restored to him. His eye doctor said his eyes are in perfect condition and his driver permit was renewed.

6. Chinese Association of the United Church of Canada annual meeting and Continuing Education Convention 2008 is held April 17-20 in the Winnipeg Chinese United Church. Rev. Wilson Chan is attending as the delegate from our church. Today while Rev. Chan is away, Rev. Dr. Gerry Fuller has kindly accepted to be the guest preacher for our Sunday worship. We thank God for the inspiring message he brings.

毕业于北京八一中学的刘同苏，在哲学方面有很深的造诣。在美国成为牧师后，神给他许多的恩赐，他对许多问题都有自己独到的见解。在这一集中，他对人类苦难与神的关系进行了分析，非常令人信服。愿新老朋友在本周六来听他的见证。

Conclude with a complimentary supper at 5:00 pm. Call Evelyn Armstrong, 613-723-5650 for details.
3. Biweekly Bible study fellowship on the Gospel of John led by Brother Patrick Wong will continue this Saturday April 19 at Brother Liang Yi and Sister Li Li’s home. 35 Borealis Cres., Ottawa. Bible study at 7:30 pm followed by a topical discussion on faith and life, concludeed by intercessory prayer. All are welcome.
4. Brother Yan Dong Yuan’s parents are applying for visa to come over to Canada from Tian Jin to have reunion with Dong Yuan’s family. We pray for their speedy completion of the process.

欢迎大家周六（3月29日）晚上到联合教会来听刘同苏夫妇的见证
这个星期六，我们开始一个新的系列——献身信仰的中国学人。他们是怀揣着救国救民的赤字之心来到美国，被神拣选，成为献身信仰的中国知识分子。
曾几何时，作为北京八一中学毕业，有着显赫出身的刘同苏，在完成大学法律专业学习后，从未想到过要当一名律师。因为律师这一职业对他来讲，职位太低了(以他的出身，可能做一个省级干部是稀松平常的)。是什么力量使这样一位如此骄傲的人来到上帝面前，并成为了一位牧师，在教会中甘愿服侍他人。欢迎大家来听刘同苏夫妇的见证。

曾几何时，作为北京八一中学毕业，有着显赫出身的刘同苏，在完成大学法律专业学习后，从未想到过要当一名律师。因为律师这一职业对他来讲，职位太低了(以他的出身，可能做一个省级干部是稀松平常的)。是什么力量使这样一位如此骄傲的人来到上帝面前，并成为了一位牧师，在教会中甘愿服侍他人。欢迎大家来听刘同苏夫妇的见证。

Every Friday evening we have two prayer meetings: English at 7:30 in the sanctuary led by Brother Miguel Stack; Chinese at 8:00 pm in the dinning hall led by Pastor Chan and others while we share devotional messages from Chinese scholars in the DVD. Last Friday Brother Miguel Stack gave report from his missionary journey in South America. We continue to pray for his mission.
2. To promote outreach to seekers and inter-churches fellowship Gracious Light Christian Centre held the 2008 Ping Pong tournament. Kick-off started at the auditorium of Ottawa Chinese Community Building yesterday and today’s final is at Chinese Christian Church of Ottawa. Our church team is sending players to participate in the contest. Please contact Brother Frank Pan or Brother Shupang Chou for details.
3. Church council met last Thursday and made some minor changes on the committees’ chair assignment. The finalized list is as follow. 2. To promote outreach to seekers and inter-churches fellowship Gracious Light Christian Centre is organizing the 2008 Ping Pong tournament. March 29, kick-off at the auditorium of Ottawa Chinese Community Building and March 30 the final at Chinese Christian Church of Ottawa. Our church team is sending players to participate in the contest. Please contact Brother Frank Pan or Brother Shupang Chou if you are interested.
3. The 2008 church council reconvened in Feb. The following committee chairs were designated. Twenty one of China’s most prominent House Church leaders recently received sentences of re-education through labour ranging from one year and three months to three years by the Linyi City in the province of Shandong. They were accused of being a part of an “evil cult” which is a common charge against Christians who do not belong to the state-approved church. We pray for strength and perseverance for the leaders and comfort and support for the families and church members of the leaders.
5. Chinese prayer meeting meets every Friday at 8 pm in the dinning room. We are now watching a new testimony series by Rev. Fan Xue De in DVD. Please come to share and pray with us.
6. English prayer time led by Rev. Wilson Chan and some Spanish friends meets every Friday night at 7 pm in the sanctuary. Please come and join the fellowship.

2. Youth worker brother Miguel Stack is away on a missionary trip from Feb. 18 to March 17. He is traveling and preaching in New York, Puerto Rico, Honduras, and Belize. Love offerings to support his mission are welcome.

Twenty one of China’s most prominent House Church leaders recently received sentences of re-education through labour ranging from one year and three months to three years by the Linyi City in the province of Shandong. They were accused of being a part of an “evil cult” which is a common charge against Christians who do not belong to the state-approved church. We pray for strength and perseverance for the leaders and comfort and support for the families and church members of the leaders.

3. Council meeting is scheduled for Feb. 24 Thursday 7 pm in the board room. All council members please attend.
4. Annual congregational meeting is scheduled for today Feb. 17 at 1 pm in the sanctuary. 2007 annual report is placed on the table for pick up. Please get a copy of either English or Chinese version and attend the meeting.
5. Two adult Sunday school classes commence in January 2008. They are: 1. study on the Book of Romans for new believers led by Brother Patrick Wong in the dinning room downstairs; 2. challenging Christian lifestyle for long time believers led by Rev. Wilson Chan in the board room up stairs. Please come every Sunday morning at 9:30 am to attend Sunday school.

1. We have entered the period in Lent. Lent reminds us the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness to make way for his ministry on earth. It also reminds us the 40 years the Israelites spent in the wilderness before they entered Canaan God’s promise land. We take this period to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross for us which makes our salvation possible.
2. English pray and praise time led by youth worker brother Miguel Stack and the minister Rev. Wilson Chan meets every Friday night 7 pm in the sanctuary. Please come and join the fellowship.
3. Today is the 4th day in the Chinese New Year. We wish everyone happiness, health and prosperity in the year of the rat.

The ministry of Jesus reveals the power of the Spirit to heal dis-ease in human bodies, minds, souls, and relationships. The healing power of the spirit flows through Jesus of Nazareth, and through those who come to trust in God’s love through the love of Jesus Christ.

1. Today (January 6th) is the first day of Epiphany. We thank God for spreading the good news of Christ’s birth to the gentles—by the morning star manifested to the three wise men. Let us also witness Christ’s glory in the same way.
2. Our Christmas celebration last year was a great success. Brothers and sisters use their time and energy and gave of their very best to glorify God. A big hand to the organizing team which includes but not limited to Sister Amy Deng; Brother Frank Pan; Sister Nan Wang; Sister Susie Cui; Sister Di Wu, Sister Ni Zeng and Sister Veronica Chen.
3. 20 copies of the Chinese devotional “Proclaim” for Jan and Feb 2008 are put on the foyer front desk. Please claim your copy and do your daily devotion accordingly.

从逃亡到自由，张伯笠的欢喜快乐是可想而知的，但疾病的折磨也立刻跟来。经过多次化疗，他的信心还在吗？欢迎大家来听张伯笠结合自己的传奇经历所作的见证和分析。他声情并茂的讲述，定会让你有所收获。
